BLOG TOUR w/ GIVEAWAY: Six Days to Live by Kenneth M. Page

ABOUT THE BOOK

Sometimes disaster is simply a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Take Addison Roberts, for example: it is a deadly coincidence that in a crowded parking lot one day, she catches the eye of a dangerous criminal on the run. In his desperation to evade the police, what he needs is a way out—and Addison and her car are his ticket to escape.

Lieutenant Chase Roberts, on leave from his military assignment, is anxious to be reunited with his wife. Yet as night falls and Addison fails to appear, Chase feels a rising sense of foreboding. Hours quickly become days as he desperately works with authorities to find the woman he loves. But after being named a person of interest, Chase is warned away from the investigation—a mandate he ignores. Chase will stop at nothing to find his wife, and what he ultimately discovers is terrifying: Addison has been carjacked by a man who has killed before and has no scruples against killing again ...

REVIEW

Page has written a compelling, suspenseful story of desperation and fate playing out against love and survival.  After falling victim to a desperate man, Addison struggles to survive, knowing full well, that her captor is volatile and unpredictable.  Chase, meanwhile, is also desperate, desperate to get his wife back.  This leads both to do things they might not otherwise do.  And who knows what sacrifices might have to be made in order for Addison to live another day.  I enjoyed this one, although it was quite intense and I had to stop and take a deep breath now and then.

BLOG TOUR w/ GIVEAWAY: Heart of the West by Carolyn Twede Frank

ABOUT THE BOOK

Independent-minded women are considered highly unsuitable in Kate Donahue's wealthy Long Island society. Yes, Kate would lead a proper life should she marry, but her dream of practicing medicine would surely be thwarted by her domineering fiance. To follow her dream, she must take dramatic measures. So when she reads a newspaper and seeking a qualified small-town physician, Kate embarks on a new life in the Wild West.

Upon her arrival in the rugged settlement of Craig, Colorado, Kate is disappointed to discover that even in the West, no one wants a woman doctor. As she struggles to establish her practice, she is kept busy fending off the unwanted attentions of a local rancher, a man unnervingly reminiscent of the ex-fiance she left behind in New York. Romantic entanglements are the last thing on Kate's mind. That is, until she meets Lucas McCurdy, an Irish immigrant with whom she feels an undeniable connection. But when their relationship inflames a dangerous land battle, Kate and Lucas find themselves defenseless in a lawless town—a perilous position that may cost them everything.

REVIEW

An entertaining account of a courageous woman who sets out to find a life where she can be herself.  As a medical doctor, she's finding it difficult to find people willing to let her treat them.  But she's determined to succeed.  She's also not particularly interested in getting married especially after one bullying fiance.  But the heart likes to do its own thing sometimes, and Kate finds herself interested in one Lucas McCurdy.  But she isn't fully prepared for the trouble this causes in an already precarious situation with cattle ranchers on one side and sheep farmers on the other.  Frank has written an entertaining and enlightening book about life as a female doctor on the western frontier.

BLOG TOUR w/ GIVEAWAY: The Fisherman's Daughter by Melinda Sue Sanchez

ABOUT THE BOOK

Eighteen-year-old Marianna De'Angelis has grown up on her father's fishing boat off the picturesque coast of Sicily, Italy. She traverses the nearby countryside on horseback and bicycle and works alongside her mother selling fish at market. It is a simple, happy life. But when WWII erupts and the Nazis overtake the country, Marianna's peaceful world is shattered.

In the midst of chaos, Marianna encounters a handsome, young Italian soldier named Massimo Scalvone. Though she tries to keep her distance, Marianna finds herself powerfully drawn to Massimo. Yet all the while, the man she is growing to love conceals a deadly secret—a secret that ensures that in a world now ruled by politics and greed, Massimo is not free to give his heart. Devastated, Marianna immerses herself in helping her family and neighbors survive the war. But soon, merely helping is not enough, and the young woman undertakes increasingly dangerous missions for the resistance. Although Marianna and Massimo each harbor secrets, their only hope of survival is to trust each other with the truth of who they really are.

REVIEW

Falling in love during war complicates things for Marianna and Massimo, two young Italians.  Which is why they try not to fall for each other.  But they can't seem to help it.  But Massimo has secrets that won't allow him to be with Marianna, leaving her with a broken heart.  And unfortunately, when war strikes home leaving Marianna further devastated, she can't stay out of it any longer.  As Marianna and Massimo struggle to survive the war and their place in it, they must face the possibility of never seeing each other again.

I think the thing I enjoyed the most about this book is the beautiful Italian setting.  I really wanted to jump into the book and see the places the author describes (without the warfare of course).  It was also very easy to empathize with the struggles that Marianna and Massimo face in both their feelings for each other and their love of their country.  And I couldn't help but admire the courage they muster to fight for those whom they love.  The story line is compelling and interesting.  I enjoyed the book.
